Raising the Oklahoma Standard

Oklahoma is a place where a stranger holds the door for you and asks about your family. That's the standard — and it's the one thing we never had to argue about. Until now.

The Oklahoma Standard is our project to rebuild how Oklahomans talk to each other about politics: facts checked, sources shown, neighbors treated like neighbors. No shouting. No bots. No lies dressed up as ads.

What's happening to us

We used to disagree better than this.

Ask anyone who has scrolled a comment section under a local news story in the last few years. Oklahomans who would wave at each other in the grocery store parking lot are calling each other names they would never say to a face. The argument isn't the problem — we've always argued. It's the way we're doing it now.

Neighbors at each other's necks

A post goes up about a school board or a water bill, and within an hour it's a shouting match — neighbors, cousins, old classmates, every one of them certain the other side is the enemy. Families skip holidays. Friendships that lasted decades end over a comment. The Oklahomans who love this state the most are quietly learning to say nothing at all, just to keep the peace.

The attacks run on autopilot

It isn't only us anymore. Cheap AI tools can turn out hundreds of attack ads overnight — a face that isn't real, a quote nobody ever said, a voice that sounds exactly like someone you trust, all of it telling you to be afraid. It lands in your feed, spreads before dinner, and by the time the truth catches up the damage is done. A lie that once cost a mailing budget now costs almost nothing, and feels almost real.

The quiet majority pays for it

Most Oklahomans don't want a fight. They want the roads fixed, the schools funded, the neighbors safe, and somebody to finally tell them the truth. But when the loudest voices win every conversation, good people step back — and the decisions get made without them.

Our answer

So we're raising the Oklahoma Standard.

Not with a louder megaphone — with a higher bar. Bring us the claim you keep hearing at the feed store, the idea nobody will take seriously, the position you wish someone would just state plainly. We check it against real evidence, publish what holds up, say clearly what doesn't, and show every source so you can judge our work for yourself.

Truth, told politely. Arguments carried by facts instead of fear. Neighbors who can disagree about a school board and still share a fence line, a church pew, and a Friday night ballgame.

It's the same spirit that makes a stranger hold the door for you: kindness, service, and honesty — brought back into how we talk about our future.

How it works

Three steps, in the open

No back room and no mystery panel. You send it, we check it against the evidence, and it goes up with the receipts attached.

1

Submit

Send us an idea, a position, or a claim you keep hearing. Your name is optional.

2

Review

We check it against primary sources — statute, data, official reports — and score it honestly.

3

Publish

It goes up with our summary and every source, so anyone can check our work.

The standard

Four rules. No exceptions.

This is the whole standard, in plain language, and it applies to everyone who sends us something.

Plain, professional language. No name-calling, no insults, no shouting in print.

Claims clear enough to check. If we can't verify it, we won't publish it.

No personal attacks. Public officials are fair game. Private people are not.

Every source shown. The receipts go on the page, not in a footnote.

Questions, answered straight.

What actually happens after you hit submit.

The Oklahoma Standard

"Oklahoma is a place where someone will hold the door for you with a smile."
